GLANC Day Tour - Crocker Art Museum

[Tom Kasten]

GLANC members travelled to Sacramento to view the Crocker Art Museum’s presentation of the David Kaplan/Glenn Ostergaard collection entitled “Glass for the New Millennium.”

David and Glen have amassed an incredible collection of outstanding studio glass. The Crocker Museum featured part of their collection to be shared with a much broader community. Over eighty pieces were beautifully displayed, each one given ample space and light. The collection has great international representation with several pieces from Australian artists as David and Glen spent considerable time down under. Many artists are represented, and it is clear that David and Glenn are very thoughtful collectors who immerse themselves in studio glass to gain insight about the creative process, understand the history of the genre and who get to know the artists. However, in the end, as Glenn explained, they buy what they like. And what they like makes a wonderful presentation about studio glass. Their attention and sensitivities are well displayed. How fortunate we were to be able to view this portion of their marvelous collection.
