Local Artist Wins AACG Visionary Scholarship Award

In early August, Carol and Tom Mapes and Eva and Richard Klein, active GLANC members, attended the Penland Auction in Ashville, North Carolina. Every year Penland Arts and Craft Center puts on a two-day auction, which actually feels more like a festival than an auction. The entire artistic community of Ashville gets involved and supports it. The Art Alliance for Contemporary Glass (AACG) is also heavily involved through its tours and scholarship programs.

This year a new and upcoming glass artist from Oakland, California, Cheryl Patrice Derricotte, won the prestigious AACG Visionary Scholarship Award. The scholarship allowed Patrice to come to Penland and attend a workshop taught by Susan Taylor Glasgow.

Those of us who like to know what is happening locally in the glass art scene should put Cheryl Patrice Derricotte (cityglassworks.com) on our radar.
