GLANC Valentine’s Day Tour

Valentine’s Day was particularly sweet for 33 GLANC members. We first visited the home of GLANC board member Arlene Garfinkle and her husband Jack, viewing a spectacular collection of both international and regional artists, artfully displayed, and eating delightful heart-shaped cookies and candy. Afterward we headed to the Bullseye Resource Center East Bay for a talk by exhibiting artist Gina Zotts. We were intrigued by her explanation of meaning behind the work, inspired growing up in the Rust belt.

GLANC Sunday in San Francisco

Breathtaking vistas, beautiful art, bonding with friends… Sunday, March 22, GLANC members were treated to 2 private collections of members Edis and Martin Robinson and Babette and Steven Pinsky. The Robinsons, long-time collectors, told stories of their travels and of acquiring works as they went, often of relatively unknown artists who later became household names, including Lino Tagliapetra. The Pinskys’ collection has many works that reference other materials: Bertil Valein’s metal and glass sculpture appears to be all bronze at first look, works by Mel Douglas and Edols & Elliot reference black ceramics, and Cassandra Straubing’s hanging piece is cast from cloth.  Both homes have unrestricted views of the San Francisco Bay, an incredible treat on a sparkling day.
